TREKKING TO THE ANCIENT QUARRIES OF QACHICCATA AND TO THE SACRED GATE OF INTIPUNKU “SUN GATE”

“Inti Punku” or Sun Gate is situated in a strategic point on the top of the mountain (3,800 m.a.s.l.) where you will enjoy an amazing view of the snowcapped “Apu” Verónica, of the Sacred Valley and also of the Pyramid of Pakaritampu.
It is also an astronomical and strategic viewpoint built by the Incas, it was used the “Pukaras” watchtower of the access roads to Machu Picchu.

Las canteras de Qachiccata, supplied red granits blocks for the incredible buildings of the temples and palaces of this inca village. There is an elaborated network of roads and ramps which connected with the main areas of construction of the archaeological site.
To do this trekking it is advisable to have about two days of acclimatization in Ollantaytambo (2,800 m.a.s.l.). This trek is for adventure lovers as it will take you to one of the most important sites in Ollantaytambo and thus the sacred valley.
The best time to do this trekking is from April to November in "dry" season because the "rainy" season is from December to March.
This trekking to the quarries and the Sun Gate takes a full day.
